(More customer reviews)Basically this product does much of what it claims to do, and does so well. Inserting or removing a drive is somooth and easy, and a bare SATA drive can be easily added or swapped out. Drives are recognized and function just as if they were mounted internally. In a well-ventilated case cooling is excellent and without depending on a failure prone 40mm fan which some similar devices use.
Where this rack comes up short is in power management. The keylock is just a lock to prevent the door from being opened. It does not control power to the drive, so there is no way to power down the hard drive and it will run and consume power as long as it is in the rack. I would not remove a drive that still had its heads moving. Perhaps there is some way to power the drive down through the operating system, but I don't know of it. Works fine as regular, not hot swap, mobile rack.
