(More customer reviews)I bought this enclosure to be able to switch different SATA hard disk drives on my motherboard. I already have a bunch of older IDE/PATA HDD's which have been served reliably with CRU's DATAPORT enclosures for ten years. However, buying a HDD enclosure is one thing, but buying additional hard drive carriers gets very expensive.The Connectland unit purchased solves two distinct problems. One, it provides unlimited use of drives without purchasing additional hard drive carriers. Secondly, it is specifically now made for SATA HD's which is now the new standard as far as motherboards. It was just a matter of time that this idea was just improved for the better. This particular unit worked perfectly the first time. However, a new user might want to install both the SATA cable and power cable to the fan on the unit before installing it into the computer case. It's rather tight since both cables are rather tiny although not difficult to connect. Power indicator lights are just what it is, to turn power on and to indicate HDD activity. Simply stating that when you remove the drive from the enclosure, power remains on and does not disengage like the CRU Dataport or other similar units.The locking key otherwise, simply locks the swing out door to the unit and nothing else. Otherwise, a minor inconvenience that one shouldn't worry about. I was also just wondering how to replace the enclosure's 40mm fan in the event that it fails. Might be cheaper to buy a new unit. Also please check out other Connectland HDD enclosures on this website. There is a stripped down version very similar to this unit that probably does the same thing at a reduced price. Otherwise, great product which does the job, really great but again not quite perfect.
