(More customer reviews)At Suso, when we decided to build our own server room, we had a few limiting factors we had to be mindful about. One was that our floor had a PSI weight limit, so getting these racks meant the overall weight of our racks would be 100 pounds lighter, which translates into a 2-3 more servers per rack.
The other thing we had to consider was that the hallway leading to the room was a bit narrow (35 inches) and we weren't sure if fully assembled racks were going to make the turn to get through the door. It turns out that they would turn, but it was still good to have the option of unassembled racks.
As for the construction of the racks, they are pretty solid. I was amazed how easily they could be put together. HP should be commended for a job well done and easy to follow instructions. I put the first rack together with help in 45 minutes and the second one on my own without instructions in 20 minutes. Its that easy to do. Having numbers on the Us in front and back is pretty standard nowadays, but this is the first rack I've worked with that had them and they are very useful when communicating with someone on the other side of the rack. They also make sure you are using the right set of holes.
Overall, for their price, they are pretty decent racks.
As for shipping. So far, Amazon hasn't charged us extra beyond the $7.98 I paid to upgrade to Amazon Prime 1 day shipping. The racks DO NOT come in 1 day. It took 10 days for them to arrive and they were shipped by freight. The racks themselves come in large boxes about 4-5 feet on a side by 1 foot high. Also note that I didn't have this delivered to a dock, it was delivered to the second floor of an office building, the ticket on the freight company was preprinted and noted that it was over $400 to do this. You may also have seen that other online stores show that it costs several hundred dollars if you don't have a dock. I'm not sure if using Amazon Prime gave us faster delivery or not. To give you a timeline of how the delivery happened, a day after we placed the item, Amazon showed that the items were received by the freight carrier, then it took the freight carrier (CEVA) 5 days to take the racks from Memphis, TN to Indianapolis (go figure). Then a few days later they called us to schedule the delivery to Bloomington and delivered it the next day. Your mileage may vary with other freight carriers or depending on how close you are to the distributor.
So all in all, it was better to go through Amazon and not have to pay for freight delivery than it was to go through another online store where the racks are $200 cheaper, but have to pay $400 for shipping.
